landmark catastrophe
"do not take any pictures young lady! this is a prison!" he said.
"don't worry i am an architect" i replied! but i had to stop.
di-sa-ster:: mcc is badly renovated!!!
the article on chicago tribune by blair kamin replied to my question on previous post and during lunch break!
i am not bothered by the repair of cracks and spalls:: the spalled concrete is removed and replaced by new concrete patches...it makes sense... athough i am not so sure about the specific techniques.
but:: i am VERY annoyed by the paint on the west facade of the building that covered the brutal concrete surface completely!
the photos on the post are from the north-east/-hypotenuse facade; still without the protective coating.
at least there might be an interesting interaction between the prisoners and the workers.
we, lunch breakers just observe them; their windows.

when i asked my prof.[hartray]how is it possible to see the interior of this building- hoping he would know someone... he said there is only one way: to get arrested!

there is no indication in the pictures of the post about painting the raw concrete. As for pathcing the concrete: usually they insert some bars of steel inside to reinforce the new concrete, then during the patching they can use some sort of "glue" enemas to make it stronger. But i think in this case the glue would not be necessary since it only a surface thing , from what I gathered from your posts.
thank you mave for your explicit description.
here [in usa] i am not so sure how it works.
it is indeed a surface thing and the pathches are tiny.
there is definetely a paint on one side of the building [unfortunately], but this side is not on the photos.
i ll research it to find out more.
